Joel Treick

Senior Pastor

Joel became the Senior Pastor of Pinewoods Church in 2012, having previously served as the Outreach Pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga, TN.  Joel is a graduate of Pepperdine University and Westminster Seminary in California.  He lives in Cantonment with his wife Kate, his two children (Lily and Jack), and his three dogs (Augustine, Geneva, and Maggie).  He loves Jesus, the church, the Bible, books, music, basketball, the beach, things with engines, and good conversations about all of the above.

DAVID BALZER

Assistant Pastor of Outreach and Assimilation

David grew up in Orange Park, FL, where during his senior year of high school he came to know Jesus Christ. He has a BA in Humanities with an emphasis on the visual arts from Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, NC. After earning his Masters in Divinity from Greenville Seminary, David was ordained in the PCA as the RUF Campus minister for East Tennessee State University and King College. During that time he met and married his wife Laura. A couple years later, the Lord blessed them with twins, Ben and Cate! Then they moved to Birmingham, AL where David helped with a church plant in Springville, taught school at Westminster School, served as an outreach pastor for Community Church PCA in Moody, and served as an interim pastor for Grace Church in Chelsea. In 2014, the Balzers moved to Stone Mountain, GA where David was the pastor of Grace Church for All Nations PCA. In the Summer of 2019, they moved to Pensacola for David to serve here at Pinewoods Church as an assistant pastor. In December of 2019 their third child, Charlotte was born. The Balzers are thankful to be here and to be a part of this loving church family.

Shawn Dean

Pastor of Students

Shawn grew up all along the East Coast, including rural Maine (the South of the North). Shawn is a graduate of Toccoa Falls College and Covenant Theological Seminary. Following seminary, Shawn served as the Middle School Pastor at Church of the Saviour in Philadelphia, PA. He moved with his wife LeeAnn to Pensacola in May of 2020. Shawn is passionate about discipleship and passing on the faith to the next generation. He’d love to talk to you more about Jesus, books, video games, Tolkien, food, or Florida State Football.

Kate Treick

Music Coordinator

Kate Treick grew up in Santa Barbara, CA, and holds an undergraduate degree from UC Santa Barbara, and graduate degrees from Gordon-Conwell Seminary (Church History), and Fordham University (Medieval History). Kate is an artist, wife, and mom who loves to write songs and sing. She has led worship for various churches and conferences for over fifteen years. Before arriving at Pinewoods, she taught "History of World Christianity" and "Spiritual Formation" at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, and after marrying her husband Joel, she taught 6th Grade (and piano!) at Light and Life Christian School in Escondido, CA. Kate loves Jesus, loves her family, loves Pensacola, and loves leading the people of Pinewoods in singing praises to our great God. To God alone be the glory!

JANET SANDERS

Office Manager

Janet has been with Pinewoods for almost two decades, serving as a pastor’s assistant and general all-around office manager. She and her husband, Steve, are long-time members of a local Baptist Church here in town. Janet has worked in office environments all of her adult life and is so thankful that God has allowed her to support the vision and ministry of Pinewoods as a full-time vocation.”

Alissa Wise

Office Assistant and Custodian

Alissa has been with Pinewoods for almost 3 years. Alissa’s Father was in the Marine Corp, so she moved around a great deal. After living in Oregon, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas, she finally moved to Pensacola in 1975. Alissa attended George Stone Vocational Technical School in Pensacola, where she received her certificate in Computer Programming. She also attended Pensacola State College, where she received an A.S. in Hospitality and Tourism Management. She has worked mainly in office settings and the food industry.
